Access Protection โ€‹

TIP

You can set your own password to properly protect your devices from changes.

There are some basic authentication methods in place to protect your device from unintended control. By default, CoolerControl uses a default password at startup. You can change this and set your own password to properly protect your devices if you so desire. Note that the daemon runs on the loopback interface and someone would need access to your machine to even attempt this. But if there are multiple users on your machine, this is one way to protect it from someone accidentally or intentionally changing your device settings.

INFO

If you notice that the password prompt pops up and you haven't changed the default password, simply close the password dialog window and then afterwards click on "Login" in the Access Protection menu to automatically login with the default password. This should be a rare/one-off occurrence though.

To reset the password back to the default, run:

bash
sudo coolercontrold --reset-password
